Colorado Casino Games

Gamblers have a variety of options when it comes to casino games in Colorado.

After voter approval, in 1991 Colorado opened casinos in the historic mining towns of Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek. Initially, the maximum legal bet was $5, but in 2009, the limit went up to $100. There are now about 40 casinos in the state -some open 24 hours a day – where bettors can play slots, poker, craps, blackjack, and roulette. In 2020, the state legalized sports betting. Several casinos have partnered with various sportsbook organizations for retail, mobile app, and online sports betting.

The Legality Of Casino Games In Colorado

Casino games became legal in Colorado when voters approved them in 1990. In 1991, the first casinos opened in Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek. Only slot machines and table games including blackjack, poker, craps, and roulette are permitted in Colorado casinos. The maximum bet allowed is $100.

In 2020, Colorado launched sports betting.  While not all casinos offer sports betting, some of them have retail and online sportsbooks, while others have one or the other. The $100 maximum bet for Colorado gambling is not applicable to sports betting.

In addition to the establishments in the three main casino towns, there are two Native American casinos, the Ute Mountain Casino in Towaoc and the Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio.

Types of games vary from casino to casino, but poker players in Colorado can expect to find games such as Three Card Poker, Mississippi Stud, High Card Flush, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em, and odds of winning are based on the games played and the types of bets made.

Casinos set various buy-ins, but they start as low as $30 and can go up to about $300. Buy-ins tend to be less expensive on weeknights and more expensive on weekends. The limit on bets at Colorado casino poker tables is $100, the legal state limit.

Craps

The game relies on a simple roll of the dice, but there are 44 types of bets that can be placed including the popular Pass Bet, Don’t Pass Bet, Come Bet, and Don’t Come Bet, each generally with 1 to 1 payout odds at most casinos. More complicated bets offer better odds, but are more difficult to win.
